Mirror, mirror on the wall…

Who’s the fairest of them all! You are!

Have you ever thought of the mirror as your friend? One who can pick you up when you’re down and get you back on track? The mirror can be our worst enemy or our best friend.

The other day I watched a video about mirror work – about how we can utilise the power of the mirror to boost our self-confidence. Pretty cool stuff.

Funnily enough though after watching the video, I realised that I’d already been doing it! It started a couple of years ago when I was trying to pick my life up after a failed relationship and I was feeling pretty down about myself.

I had that feeling of being on my own again and one of the biggest adjustments was that I didn’t have any external feedback to pick me up when I was feeling down.

It was just me now!

So when I was feeling down, I started saying things to myself in the mirror. Nice things! Things that would make me feel better. Things that I would want to hear from someone else.

Like ‘you’re doing the best you can’ or ‘you’re amazing!’ or ‘just keep going, you’re on the right track.’

And what I began to notice was that I actually felt better when I said these things to myself. It was pretty amazing so I began to do this more often.

Each morning I would say nice to things to myself in the mirror (it’s even more powerful if you use I am at the beginning of your sentence!) and this really started to increase my self-confidence. I was surprising myself with how well it worked!

Now when I’m feeling down, I just say something out loud to pick myself up. I don’t need to rely on someone else to give me that little boost anymore.

So why don’t you give it a go? Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself ‘you’re amazing!’And then do it again tomorrow and the day after that and in a week, notice the difference this has made to how you feel about yourself.

I bet you feel a whole lot better!
